Painting and Ethiopia Decoration on Etsy

I made these around Christmas and called them ornaments and now that Christmas is over I am calling them "Decorations" :) A couple pictures down is an example of how to display them year round. This one has a heart over Ethiopia....They would make great Valentine's Day presents :) Thanks for your support.

Back

This is a shadow box frame from Michael's craft store. It even came with the pin to hang it with :) This way you can display it all year round.

This sweet mixed media painting just went up on Etsy. I was thinking about my friend that I miss when I started painting it but it transformed into a Mother/Daughter image. It has gold leafing (how do you say that?:) that really makes it stand out. Other materials include: Acrylic and oil paint, papers, glue, ink, graphite, paint pens. It is 8 x 10 and listed at $35 and $5 for shipping. Here is the Etsy link:

Would love some suggestion on subject matter for my next art piece. Adoption art?? Nature?? People?? Inspiring words in the art?? Tell me what style you are drawn to?? I definitely paint from my heart and not to please others, but I am always interested in what others are drawn to.

This is a close up of the words on the art piece.

This one will not be for sale because I used a picture of Belina Eaton's amazing painting to practice painting faces. Her art is out of this world, check her out!!

I may use this one for some sort of art give away....stay tuned :)

Treasure Hunt...

Decided on a treasure hunt yesterday. We have a couple gigantic antique stores in town. I didn't even make it through 1 of them in 2 1/2 hours!!! I so wish we were ready to move into a new house because I saw some great, heavy furniture items that we don't have room for here, and, well, we don't have the money for yet, so it will have to wait. But here are a couple of my finds....Have a great Friday!!!!

Such a cute Owl painting for $15. I LOVE owls and I love the shape of this piece.

Shabby Chic...don't really know if that is what you call it, so a super cool, worn shelf for baby girl's room.

Vintage Ragedy Ann and Andy for baby girl's room.

Ragedy Ann....

Ragady Andy...I can not get over his face....so sweet.

Couple of cuties

Two friends hanging out. I have 2 more to go and then there will be a whole group of friend hanging out. Hope you get to hang out with a good friend today.

Played with my photo editing program to make the picture above and below.

I'm feeling very indecisive today. Don't know if I should stay home and paint or go treasure hunting to some antique stores in town. I'm probably going to spend the whole 3 hours to myself trying to figure out what to do......hmmmm.

Photo Fun

I'm learning new editing techniques for my photos....very time consuming, but very cool!

Peak inside my "studio"

Here is just a peak inside my "studio", which is actually a corner in our guest room/future daughter's room. I love the window and my pink chair.

This is the top of a shelf in my "studio". That is a picture of my sister and I when we were kids and 2 dolls for our future daughter. The 2 candles were given to me on my first Mother's day and I just painted that little picture. I'll try to do a close up of the painting and I'm planning on doing a series of them that I think will look great together.

The rug has the colors for our future daughter's room and I just happen to love them for my "studio" (corner). There's a painting I am working on (I don't love it) and some inspiration hanging on the wall.

Hey....I have 6 followers. I couldn't be more excited. Thanks for all the kind words about my art pieces. This is a soul searching journey for me and at times it can be so rewarding and other times so frustrating, so thanks for the encouragement!!!

Mixed Media (similar to Kelly Rae's Style...see older post)

This is the picture I did and gave to my sister for Christmas...It was very fun!
Mixed Media Used: Paper, oil and acrylic paints, paint pens,

Close up. I used the words, "Interesting and unconventional" because my sister is one of a kind :)
Also, wanted to say "Hi" to my 1 follower Chrissy. I think you deserve some sort of prize...i'll have to think of something. Thanks for following, hopefully you won't be all alone for long.

Sketching

I couldn't find the camera battery charger today so I couldn't take a picture of the painting I did for my sister. Hopefully it isn't in the closet that I "organized" today because then I may never find it. I swear, it is harder for me to find things when they are actually put away. Anyway, I digress....
So instead I put up a photo of the sketch I am working on. I am practicing drawing people in hopes that I will be able to paint them better. In high school my art teacher, who goes down in history as one of the best teachers ever, taught us to graph our pictures so that we can get the proportions right, which is so hard for me and most important for a realistic drawing or painting. I took the above picture with my phone, so it's a little dark....sorry.

I am definitely finding that this process of creating can be VERY frustrating. Every picture goes through an "ugly" phase and you have to hold it together and keep going without getting too frustrated, which is quite hard for me. I thought my kids tested my patience, ha, well this may take the cake. It's good for me....at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I hope to post my painting tomorrow and spotlight a new artist.

Good Night. Good Art.

Kelly Rae Roberts

When I was getting back into art, meaning finally listening to that voice in my head, as well as having some clear signs that it was time, I came across this artist: Kelly Rae Roberts.

I was walking in a store and her book jumped out at me, okay not really...I actually bumped into the rack and it fell on the floor, so I'm a little clumsy, anyway....I took a closer look and really loved her style. Here's where it gets weird...I opened it up and on the page that I opened to there was a picture of one of her pieces and across the piece was the word..."harmony" (my name, in case you're new here:). So, the book was talking to me...stranger things have happened, right?? Maybe??? Needless to say I bought and devoured the book. I sent her an E-mail about my experiences that lead me back to art and to her book and she was kind enough to reply.

For Christmas I completed 2 pieces of art work inspired by her style. Tomorrow I will post a picture of the one I did for my sister. Please check out her blog...it is both inspiring and heartfelt.

Good Night. Good Art.

Day 1...Welcome!!!

(These are the ornaments I made this Holiday Season)

Well hello there. Happy New Year!!!

My name is Harmony and this year is going to be a great year. On of my New Year's resolutions is to embrace what I love. I love many things, one of which is art. I have pushed it aside for years and have come up with many reasons that now is not the time. I'm done with that...blah, blah, blah...if not now, when??

So, my plan is to find and appreciate art every day, hence the 365 Days of Art title. I am hoping to post every day, but I have to be honest, with 2 young, wild sons and an adoption in the works, plus the rest of that life stuff....I'm not sure I will get in a post every day. But be sure that if I don't post, I'm still finding something creative to do or observe every day of this year (and hopefully beyond) and I will share what I find and do with you.

I hope to feature some artists and share with you some of the art I am working on. If you hear of anything or have some of your own art to share please let me know. I would love for this to turn into a community of creative spirits that support each other.

Let's make 2010 the year that we stop making excuses and start spend more time doing what we love.

Thanks for stopping by....Let me know that you're here.
Cheers,
Harmony
